Day 48 (October 7, 2006) - Eureka, CA
<<^>>
Petr: I am in Eureka, and after a quick visit to the town I am ready to go to see the sequoias in Humboldt State Park and drive on the famous avenue of the Giants. Eureka is similar to Arcata, a sleepy college town. The Avenue of the Giants is incredible, for a moment I even thought I could bike it and make Laura proud of me, but it was just a fleeting thought. Luckily I didn't - it turned out to be quite hilly and challenging!

Laura and Francesca: despite my best efforts, I could not get up as planned at 6:00 for a bike ride, instead I turned off the alarm clock and fell back to sleep. It's a gorgeous day, seldom seen in MA in October. It's warm and sunny. Francesca and I are out and about all day getting things done. Haircuts in the afternoon, with our friends Stefano and Grazia. Francesca then goes to dinner at her grandparents' and I gladly accept an invite at the Bellezzas. Fun evening catching up with the latest and greatest news - and great food, as usual! Thank you for a great evening! I get home pretty late and I know that tomorrow morning I won't get up again for a ride. Although, everything is ready just in case...

Petr: Morning in the RV park.

Petr: Harbor in Eureka, CA.

Petr: I thought it looked pretty different from the houses around...

Petr: Old Downtown Eureka.

Petr: More of Old Downtown.

Petr: Crossing of E St and 2nd Ave.

Petr: Approaching Humboldt Redwoods S.P.

Petr: Welcome to Humboldt Redwoods State Park!

Petr: A giant sequoia, 300ft and 1000 years old. It makes me feel small... and young.

Petr: Smurfs' dwellings carved into the trees.

Petr: This tree is 3200 years old - wow!

Petr: I could not fit the RV, but a car drives through no problem!

Petr: Drive-thru tree, 5000 years old, 292ft tall, 62ft diameter.

Petr: A kneeling giant feeling small next to 3 gigantic trees.
